リノに移動してから初めての土曜日でした。
アメリカの大学は学生への援助がしっかりしている場合が多く，UNRでもWolf Cardという学生証のようなものに様々な特典がついています。そのなかの一つがバスに乗ることができるというもので，今日は家の近くのバス停から大学までバスで移動してみることにしました。
Transitというアプリを使うとバスが今どのあたりにあるのかが分かると聞いたので，早速ダウンロードして移動してみました。アプリの画面通り，交差点が曲がるところもほぼオンタイムでバスが到着して，そこから30分ほどで学校に着きました。本当は午前中から行きたかったのですが，初めての週末ということもありのんびりしてしまって大学に着いたのは11時30分ごろでした。
通常の学期では土曜日も図書館は空いているそうですが，まだ授業が始まっていないこともあってしまっていました。仕方なく大学内を散策し，開いていた学生センターで作業をすることにしました。授業の履修予定を確認し，自分の日本語のクラスに必要なデータの移行をしました。
午後には家に帰り，メキシコの海鮮料理を食べました。日本の料理とは違い，チリソースがかかっていたりパクチーが加えられていたりして，違った楽しみ方ができました。
Today was my first Saturday since moving to Reno. One great thing about American universities is that they often provide substantial support to students, and UNR is no exception. They offer a “Wolf Card,” which is like a student ID with various perks. One of those perks is free bus rides, so I decided to give the bus a try and travel from the stop near my house to campus.
I heard that the Transit app lets you track the buses in real-time, so I downloaded it and gave it a shot. Just as the app showed, the bus arrived almost exactly on time, even as it made turns at intersections. The ride took about 30 minutes, and I arrived at the university around 11:30 AM. I’d originally planned to get there earlier, but since it was my first weekend, I took it easy and ended up getting a late start.
I found out that the library is usually open on Saturdays during the regular semester, but since classes haven’t started yet, it was closed today. So, I decided to explore the campus a bit and ended up working in the student center, which was open. I spent some time reviewing my course schedule and transferring the necessary data for the Japanese class I’ll be teaching.
In the afternoon, I headed back home and tried some Mexican seafood for dinner. It was quite different from Japanese cuisine, with chili sauce and cilantro adding a unique flavor. It was a nice change and a fun way to experience something new.
