Japanese School Year
Japanese school year starts in April and ends in March. This is a unique custom in Japan, and it is under discussion if Japanese school year should start in September like the world standard. I often heard that issue last April because schools were closed due to COVID-19, but I rarely hear that these days. I wonder how it goes…
Graduation Ceremony at Junior High School
There is a graduation ceremony at all schools in Japan. Since junior high school is the last term for mandatory education in Japan, it has some meanings, though most students go to high schools. In the ceremony, usually there will be at least three speeches; from the principal, from the junior student who stays at school (soji), from the senior student who graduates (toji). I wrote how to make a soji speech in Japanese few days ago. Graduation ceremony is regarded as the most important school event, so students have to practice a lot for the speech.
Influence of COVID-19
As you can refer to the link below, The graduating students, younger students, and families of the graduating students all sit facing the stage at a typical graduation. This year at my school, and probably at most other schools, however, only graduating students and their parents participated in the ceremony. Hopefully, all students will join the ceremony next year.

中学校卒業式
日本のすべての学校で卒業式があります。ほとんどの学生は高校に通っていますが、中学校は日本の義務教育の最終学期であるため、それはいくつかの意味があります。式典では、通常、少なくとも3つのスピーチがあります。校長から、学校に通う中学生から（送辞）、卒業する先輩から（答辞）。数日前に日本語で送辞スピーチの作り方を書きました。卒業式は最も重要な学校行事とされているので、学生はスピーチのためにたくさん練習しなければなりません。
COVID-19の影響
以下のリンクを参照すると、卒業生、若い学生、卒業生の家族はすべて、典型的な卒業式でステージに面して座っています。しかし、今年は私の学校、そしておそらく他のほとんどの学校で、卒業生とその保護者だけが式典に参加しました。来年は生徒全員が式典に参加することを願っています。
